Let’s be real: working out can be super vulnerable, especially if you don’t recognize yourself in others while at the gym. Maybe you’re not sure which changing room you can enter or you feel like you have to present yourself as someone that you’re not. Working out is really only fun when you are at a place where you feel accepted and welcome.
That is why we want to open up We Are Queer gym. A gym where binary rules don’t get through the door , where you can workout in any outfit that you desire. A place to be social, grab those dumbbells and give us your best moves between your sets. It’s a place where you can be yourself.
We can only make this place a reality with your donations. Together we stand strong. Are you building with us?
Hi! My name is Senn. My pronouns are they/them and I am a personal trainer and nutrition coach. I enjoy sport because it helps me to feel better about myself but, as a non-binary person, I experience a lot of stress at the gym… Many transgender and queer people have to deal with this struggle. That’s why I founded We Are Queer: a safe place for LGBTQIA+ people to exercise. After years of online coaching, it is now time for a physical gym!

It was so cool every time I saw a photo of a We Are Queer member with a huge smile after a coaching session, I can’t wait to see that in real life. I am very excited to guide other people in their process, and to see what changes are possible.
Do you make a donation? Then you will receive a free sports program of 3 months from us. Get started at home with an extensive sports schedule and cool videos from Senn.
The sports program is in the works, so you expect to receive it around February or March. But, gets crazy. Can we tell you now.
Oh, and it doesn’t matter how much you donate. You get the sports program anyway. Although you make us very happy with a nice donation in exchange for our hard work 🙂.
The gym is a safe space.
Safety and good coaching come first. We provide a safe place within the walls of the gym and as far as our power reaches outside. Everyone is welcome in this gym and no one is left out.
So much more than just strength training.
Everyone knows that exercising makes you physically stronger but We Are Queer is also about your mental strength. That is why there is room to work on yourself in every way. You will become stronger physically and mentally in this gym.
For the community, by the community.
Together we are strong, we know that all too well. By building this gym, we create a place where unique forces come together. We Are Queer is there for people to discover themselves, a place to meet, support and develop themselves.

Een sportschool waar iedereen, echt iedereen zich veilig kan voelen en zichzelf kan zijn! Kan niet wachten.

Exercise is self-care! And many of us don’t have access to it bc the mere environment of a cishet gym is violent! We really need this space, it would be truly a blessing and such a help to both our mental and physical health!!!

Building a queer gym is expensive. Senn has spent a lot of time writing a business plan, and has calculated that it will take €200K. We want to collect a quarter of this with you, the rest with financiers. With your donations, we can make important steps towards our goal and demonstrate to financiers how great the support is. Your donation kills two birds with one stone!
With €10,000 we will look for a location. With € 20,000 we will put out vacancies. With € 30,000 we can talk to the contractor about the location. With €40,000 we will make an appointment with suppliers of the sport equipment. With €50,000 we will discuss the remaining amount with investors and work towards a final opening date.
Share the crowdfunding information with everyone: queer, straight, old and young. It doesn’t matter. Many people are not familiar with the fact that exercising is not always easy for queer people. By sharing our story you make people aware and hopefully also willing to help.
Wasn’t the perfect amount for you among the options? Or do you want to make a business donation? We Are Queer is still looking for the right investor(s) to contribute to our success. €50,000 of funding will take us a long way, but a little more is needed. If you would like the pitch deck, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We give you a safe place to exercise. There will be a gender-neutral dressing room, but also separate changing cubicles so that you do not have to enter the entire dressing room. Toilets have no gender 😉 We also help you to feel happy(er) in your body. We guide you in the run-up to surgery or recovery. We will also have people employed who are part of the community themselves and have understanding and knowledge of your wishes.
Yes, you can come and exercise! As a cis straight person you are of course also welcome. Know that everyone is welcome at We Are Queer, but is designed to offer everyone within the LGBTQIA+ a safe environment to exercise. Queer is the norm.
Our goal is to have a physical location at a central point in Amsterdam by mid-2022.
We are looking for a location centrally located in Amsterdam. This location must be wheelchair accessible. Do you have a great tip? Let us know and become an honorary member of We Are Queer!
This is Senn: a 32-year-old non-binary person that uses the pronouns they/them. Initially trained as a marketer and now personal trainer and nutrition coach. You may know Senn from last summer’s coverage detailing the filing of their case against the state to allow an X in the passport: https://www.nrc.nl/nieuws/2021/08/01/senn-bestaat-niet-volgens-de-wet-a4053310
Yes, that’s right, there is a queer gym in Rotterdam. Because there are also a lot of people in Amsterdam who need a safe and inclusive sports space, it is time that a gym for queers opens its doors here too.
People from the queer community need a place of their own that is geared to them, with a culture that is different from regular gym culture. There, the spaces are binary and the coaches are often not familiar with the needs of the queer community. To make regular gyms more inclusive is therefore a process that will take a long time, opening a queer gym is a direct solution.
